HR Project Officer - 2 year fixed term contract

Job Introduction

The West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (MCA) is seeking to appoint an organised, proactive and people-focussed HR Project Officer to join our HR & OD team and support the successful delivery of strategic HR projects across our organisation. 

In this role, you’ll work alongside the HR Project & Data Manager to coordinate and deliver a range of exciting projects that directly impact how we support, grow, and develop our people. 

Whether you're supporting new HR policies, analysing workforce trends, or improving how we manage change, you’ll play a key role in making our HR function more effective, efficient, and future-ready. You’ll also be central to project governance, documentation, and communication—keeping everything running smoothly and transparently. 

This role offers an ideal opportunity for someone with project coordination experience and a strong interest in data and people practices to grow their career in a supportive and collaborative public sector environment.   

Your key responsibilities in this role will be to ensure a focus on delivering the priorities of the HR team by:  

Project Delivery & Coordination 

  • Support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of HR projects, ensuring timelines and outcomes are met.
  • Manage project governance—tracking risks, issues, and milestones while keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Maintain project plans, dashboards, and documentation to ensure transparency and alignment.

Data & Reporting 

  • Collect and analyse HR data to provide insights on workforce trends like turnover, recruitment, and performance.
  • Produce clear and compelling reports and dashboards to support data-led decisions.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance in data handling and reporting practices.

Process Improvement 

  • Assist in designing and documenting HR policies, toolkits, and operational procedures.
  • Identify inefficiencies and suggest data-driven improvements to streamline HR workflows.
  • Keep all project resources and documentation up to date and accessible.

Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Act as a key contact for HR project updates and queries.
  • Coordinate meetings, workshops, and communications to keep teams engaged and aligned.
  • Prepare briefings, presentations, and updates for internal stakeholders.

The West of England is an amazing part of the world to live and work. We are based in a new bright and airy office, with all the latest technology, close to Bristol Temple Meads Train Station. 

The salary for this role is £37, 035 - £40, 476. This is the full-time equivalent salary, and will be pro-rata for part-time. We advertise salary ranges for job roles, with new appointments for external candidates typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, where higher skill levels or experience are applicable, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate. This approach allows for potential year-on-year salary increases, offering progression and appropriate rewards to employees.
