Job Introduction

Independent Persons – Section 28(7) Localism Act 2011

The West of England Mayoral Combined Authority is looking to appoint at least two Independent Persons to assist the Monitoring Officer in dealing with Code of Conduct complaints against elected representatives who serve on the Combined Authority’s committees.

You will have an interest in democracy and governance with the ability to operate apolitically, respect confidentiality and exercise sound judgement in a proportionate and pragmatic manner.

Your role will be to provide independent advice to the Monitoring Officer, the Combined Authority’s Hearings Sub-Committee, and the subject of any complaint to assist in determining how complaints should be dealt with.

These are voluntary positions for a period of up to 5 years. Reasonable remuneration will be provided in respect of more time-consuming matters. Full training will be provided.

To be considered for this role, you cannot be a West of England Mayoral Combined Authority Officer or Member (or a close relative of one) either currently or in the past 5 years.
